(More customer reviews)I bought this model of scale (only mine was gray) a little over a year ago to weigh postage for my online storefront. The scale worked great for about 4 months, until the digital display decided to occasionally go MIA, with part of the read-out disappearing, so that the numbers 4 or 8 or 12 all looked like the number 1. If I indulged the machine with a rest period of anywhere from 1 minute to a day or more, it would magically start working again. Somewhere along the way, the scale's calibration became unreliable and was often, but not always, 1 to 2 ounces off from one day to the next. (Tip for prospective online business owners: If you want to really enrage a customer, try sending them a package with postage due!) As a result, I had to add a 2 oz. fudge-factor to every package, just to be on the safe side. When you're mailing an approx. 15 oz. package, the difference between 1 lb. and 2 lbs. shipping weight for USPS Priority can equal a $4 per package bite out of your profit margin. I figure I've probably overpaid several hundred dollars in postage over the past year. So it's hard to imagine why I would have felt dismayed when, last week, the thing finally gave up the ghost. Perhaps, as is wont to happen in any dysfunctional relationship, my willingness to adapt and compromise with unacceptable behavior became an inscrutable habit. Or maybe I'm just lazy and will take the path of least resistance,no matter what the cost. The thing is, after paying $64 plus shipping, I was hellbent on getting my money's worth. Which is why I gave this machine a full week of rest until yesterday, when I finally gave up the ghost, myself, and ordered a postal scale -- not an Escali. But I fear my ability to trust has been damaged. I don't know that I'll ever again let my guard down with a postal scale, nor trust what it tells me from one day to the next. My new scale is on its way to me, as I write. If it works properly, which is an anomly with most products these days, I will 12-step, er... 2-step my way back online and express my gratitude via a glowing review.
