Actually, I use it when I go backpacking to gauge how far I'm straying from my ultralight ideal. I have a similar scale that measures in the 1 kg to 0.1 gram scale, and I'm basing my evaluation on a comparison between the two. This one is quite a bit better.

The hook on which stuff is dangled is about 1 1/2 inches across, which should be enough for most luggage, etc. Its larger size and fewer chain links make it much less fiddly than my similar scale, so I'm pleased.

The other end is a handle that kind-of retracts against the body of the scale when being stowed. I can easily get two fingers through that handle, and that's usually enough, except...

I can see two problems with this part of the gizmo. First, if I'm weighing something really heavy, such as my backpack before a week long trip (or, conceivably, actual luggage), then I might be forced to heft fifty or so pounds with those two fingers. That wouldn't be too enjoyable. And the scale claims to max out at 40kg, which is almost 90 pounds -- ain't no way most of us could hold that much weight with two fingers. So this little handle *ALMOST* loses the thing one star.

But then I'm thinking: if they redesigned this so I could use my whole hand, it would be much bigger and more cumbersome. And most people *still* wouldn't be too happy trying to lift 90 pounds with one hand. So a larger handle would be pretty much wasted.

The second problem is that a lot of folks won't even be comfortable lifting 30 pounds for more than a second or two -- all in all, we're not the healthiest generation this planet's every seen. So they'll want to hang the whole unit from a hook on the ceiling or something. And the handle is adequate for that, if not perfect.

What swings this back to a full five-star rating is that the readout has big digits (about 3/4" high), and that when the weight on the hook is stabilized it beeps and holds the reading on the display. So you don't need to be peering up at it near the ceiling: take the weight off, lower the scale, and the weight is still displayed until you hit "Tare" (old weighing lingo for "reset", it turns out). That is a very nice feature. Reminds me of the air pressure gauge I use for my motorcycle, which has the even better feature that it "speaks" its reading, so you don't even need to look. That would be even better here, too, I guess.

But still, this thing does everything it claims to do, is sturdily built, and has a few key winning features.
